Sunset

Softly the rain falls,

Eyes as gray as the sky watch quietly from behind the windshield,

The radio speaks of distant places.. a mermer of forgotten things,

But I do not hear,

Old wounds remind me of there presence, an ache as deep as the rolling thunder.

Tired… so tired… things that may never be spoken haunt my thoughts.

I go on… day after day.. hour by hour..

The sun sets, light glinting on drops of diamond on the window..

I watch the colors of the world through the crystalline breath of the storm.

Red and gold as the light dips low, the droplets turn to a splash of blood in fading twilight.

And then the peace of the muffled night washes away the madness of the day.
