In bed

As I lay in bed,
Listening to the rain,
A sadness decends,
That is not quite pain,
The blankets feel empty,
Though I am relaxed and warm,
The world is silent,
But for the storm,
This is my life,
My new norm,
Plenty of comfort,
From small joys and writeing,
But no one to hold,
Or to make life exciting,
So I bottle my joy,
And put it away,
Hopeing to pour it out,
Some other rainy day,
I’ll keep it safe,
As the days pass by,
To give it to you,
When,
Again,
The sparkle returns to my eye.

The Storm

Cold the chains,

That bind the thunder,

Rolling beyond the horizons edge,

Clouds bloom,

Heavy shades of iron and rust,

Light departs in a trail of embers,

Dust laden wind,

Lashing my neck and arms,

Violent warning,

Tasteing of earth and lightning,

Braced on a knee,

Fingers twined in stone,

Face to the sky,

Rictus grin,

Amidst the bruising storm,

Screaming defiance,

As branches crack and fall,

Under the blade of exploding air,

Frozen hell,

A rain of hammers,

Still I hold,

Broad sholders,

A shelter of pain,

Slowly passing to gentle rain,

A soft mew…

As I hold the kitten to my chest,

And set my eyes toward home.

Sunset

Softly the rain falls,

Eyes as gray as the sky watch quietly from behind the windshield,

The radio speaks of distant places.. a mermer of forgotten things,

But I do not hear,

Old wounds remind me of there presence, an ache as deep as the rolling thunder.

Tired… so tired… things that may never be spoken haunt my thoughts.

I go on… day after day.. hour by hour..

The sun sets, light glinting on drops of diamond on the window..

I watch the colors of the world through the crystalline breath of the storm.

Red and gold as the light dips low, the droplets turn to a splash of blood in fading twilight.

And then the peace of the muffled night washes away the madness of the day.

Storm rolling in

Was out trimming the oak trees today and was headed back with a load of branches on the backhoe when the wind picked up. A thunderstorm was rolling in and I happened to be passing the temple at just the right moment to get a photo of it with the temple still illuminated by the last bits of sunshine.
